We're often asked to develop more resources on positive self-esteem parenting as it relates to children of color. The whole issue of children wishing they could be White so they could beautiful is heartbreaking. We have consulted several experts on the topic and most agree that poor self-esteem probably begins to develop roots as early as 2 - 3 years - when children start noticing images of people around them, on television, in the movies, in toys, and in books.
Parents often convince themselves that the images surrounding very young children are not "all that important," only to discover later (when their Asian, Black or Biracial child starts longing to look White, or have straight hair, or begins to shun dolls and toys that look like them) that it really is "all that important."
In an effort to help address some of these issues, and to arm parents with the resources and information needed to develop strong, self-confident children, we have developed a Multicultural Family Cruise featuring a Positive Self-Esteem Parenting Seminar. July 6 - 12, 2008 multicultural families from all over North America will join us for six nights of fun, games, contests, prizes and free parenting workshops - all designed with your family in mind. We'll cruise from New York Harbor to the Bahamas and Florida onboard the Norwegian Cruise Line's ship Spirit - selected for its family friendly freestyle cruising environment. For more information, or to register, visit our Website at http://www.multiculturalfamilycruise.com/ or call 888-711-3046.
